Reasons to be Thankful..

Well it's black Friday and I have to say my fiance was up and out the door this morning at 5am.

I was sleeping off the turkey, stuffing, pumpkin pie, and Guinness.. Shopping can be done online with a cup of coffee. :)

I was back on the sticks yesterday with some friends and the hill was sweet. We have about 38% of our terrain open which will continue to grow in the next few days as temps look good and even some snow is in the forecast for Monday and Tuesday.

There are plenty of reasons to be thankful this Thanksgiving and I'm thankful for the 251 Fan Guns, the parks and pipes department, the staff we have at Mount Snow and everyone that has been associated with working on this event thus far.

Since we started this process of the Dew Tour nearly a year ago now it has been a pleasure to work with everyone from the police department, to the Chamber of Commerce, to the folks at AST. Everyone is excited to branch into winter and I know that Mount Snow will put on a great show for all involved.

Yesterday after my first turns of the day we stopped in Cuzzins and enjoyed a few rounds with some of Mount Snow's finest. Four guys who have skiing at Mount Snow since the 60's. They depict exactly what I want my retirement to be like. Get up, grab a cup of coffee, ski a few hours, then hit the bar for some football, beers and food. Everyday.

These guys all in their 60's and 70's talked about the good ole days of the mountain back when we had an outdoor swimming pool, an indoor skating rink, the 300' geyser, you know the 60's. But then they said that they thought the good ole days were back! Upon learning who I was they congratulated me on landing the Dew Tour. I was surprised. A bunch of seniors stoked to see Tanner Hall and Kelly Clark launch out of the pipe. Awesome. They were great. It was like having lunch with the Rat Pack.

Get on up here and enjoy some quality skiing and riding. If you see the guys at the bar, (they're always at the end corner), pull up a stool, grab a beer and listen to their tales. One day that will be me hopefully talking about the good ole days of the Dew Tour and how Mount Snow once hosted a number of Olympic Gold medalists all at the same time.

Hannah Teter Is "On A Mission"

Snowboarding's new Golden Girl, Hannah Teter, is gearing up for the Winter Dew Tour. We're pretty excited to have her return to her home state of Vermont to throw down some tricks at our competition.

So what's Hannah planning to unleash on the halfpipe this year?
"That's top secret information. I'm working on a lot of stuff. I'm trying to do more inverts and corked-out rotations that you don't see at the girls' level. I want to be more creative."
And how focused is she on this competition?
"Oh, yeah. I’m on a mission. I donate all my contest winnings to charity now, so I’m going in hard this season, trying to raise money for a big water project in Kenya and for Children International, so I want to win every single event, Halfpipe and Slopestyle, win all the money, and dedicate it all to the charities I’m working with. I’ve got a lot of work to do. How’s that?"
What a great gal, huh?

COLD + FAN GUNS = SNOW, PARKS

What's up people? The time has arrived.. What time you say..

Time to grab that old beanie from under your car seat.

Time to think....Where are my gloves?

Time to think.... Maybe I should buy an ice scraper for my car.

Time to think... It's time to ski and ride damn it.

Mother Nature finally decided to turn the heat down and jump into winter so
Mount Snow and Carinthia are OPENING this weekend!!!

That's right with 251 fan guns firing off snow from here to Amherst we are going to have some of the best terrain in the East open come this weekend.

We'll be open with top to bottom primo skiing and riding on 116 acres... That's a lot of land people. Expect to make some turns on Canyon/Standard, Deer Run/Long John on the Main Face and as well as Chute over on the North Face. Carinthia will house TWO terrain parks, one top-to-bottom on Nitro and Lower Titanium and a smaller park on The Gulch. Our park crew will install at LEAST 20 boxes and rails and possibly a jump or two from what I heard from TB.

I hoped on my snowmobile today and had the pleasure of installing the last few Carinthia Trail signs. It was crazy the amount of snow that's out there and Gaitor and his crew of rangers were already out there putting in some rails for the weekend. The brand spanking new orange signs really stand out all over and I know if they could they'd be screaming for joy. I would. They have the best spots to watch people jib and fly through the air all season long on 12 terrain parks and 2 pipes.

Not only are they going to be there to watch all of you but they'll be out there to watch the the AWESOMENESS as my friend Lisa would say of the Winter Dew Tour.

I mean come on. Shaun White. The flying tomato here at Mount Snow.

Gretchen Blieler. Not only a ridiculous snowboarder but might I say a gorgeous one too.

Then our local girl Kelly Clark she'll be here. I hang with her brother every other day down at TC's. KC is going to go big cause that's what she does. I can't wait to see her launch out of the pipe and nab that top air on the meter in the pipe.

Tanner Hall. Yeah he still remembers Mount Snow's first XGames because of a party thrown by Red Bull back in the day.

Parties, parties, parties. So far I've talked to record producers, grassroots marketing directors, local business owners, all who want to throw a P-A-R-T-Y. Why.. Because we got to...

Screw New Years this year. Stay at home, watch the big ball fall in your PJ's drink some water for a week because come January 8th. It's on and you'll need to be hydrated to ski, ride, scream, party, then do it over again for four straight days....

In and around Boston this weekend? Stop by the Mount Snow Booth at the Boston Ski and Snowboard Expo at the Bayside Expo Center for a chance to win some free lift tickets, some Dew Tour shwag, and some pretty sweet Carinthia Pint Glasses.

I'm out to meet up with my boy Tim down at TC's for a cold one.

COMPETITIONS, PARTIES, BANDS

That's how the Winter Dew Tour rolls.

First names...

Who's attending this year's Dew Tour at Mount Snow?

Yesterday the Dew Tour sent out a press release to the media listing a number of athletes confirmed for the 3-stop tour. The list was a big time A++ list of the top pros in the world.
Shaun, Tanner, Hanah, Gretchen, Kelly, Simon, Sarah, Kristi... and a bunch of their closest friends.

It's sweet. Some of the other names that stand out to me.. Colby West and Charles Garnier. Those two superstars used to compete within our events a few years ago and it's awesoeme to see their names now among the top pros on the Dew Tour.

Kelly Clark.. Uh hello. Our local hometown girl. TC's, her family restaurant where she still has a room (in the apartment above it not in the kitchen) is a where I enjoy a few cocktails every now and again. I'm sure TC's will be bumping all week long of the Dew Tour. If you've never been check it out as all of her awards (including the Gold Medal) are on display as well as tons of other interesting news articles, and photos of KC and her worldly travels.

Alright it's off to the big ski sale at UMASS. Stop by and pick up a postcard or a pint glass... Sorry they are empty you'll have to find something to fill them with on your own.

DewMass @ The UMass Ski and Snowboard Sale

A good day to all those travelers on the vast tubes of the intranet, and thank you for stopping by and reading up on the Winter Dew Tour up at Mount Snow. This is the first post of many coming from the DewMass Promotions team, working out of the Sports Management department at the Isenberg School of Management.

We are happy to announce that DewMass Marketing is putting on another speculator promotion in conjunction with the UMass Ski and Board Club's Ski and Snowboard Sale! The event will be starting tomorrow, November 12 and will run to Friday November 14. What could be a better match for promoting a winter action sports event, than a Ski and Board Sale at UMass?

Be on the look out for the black Carinthia swat truck outside the UMass Amherst Student Union. Also, keep your eyes open for the good looking members of DewMass Marketing who will be tabled outside the Union's front doors with lots of information on the upcoming Winter Dew Tour event at Mount Snow on January 8-11.

Front Page Kings (For A Day)

The Winter Dew Tour and DewMass Marketing got their first front page article today in the UMass Daily Collegian. The article was featured as the lead story on their website too. Tomorrow, we'll get bumped from the headlines, but like a b-list celeb trying to hang in there, we will get back on top, even if we have to do something crazy to do it next time. Stay tuned.

No detour: 'Dew Tour' gives ISOM students real experience (The Daily Collegian)

In Which A Certain UMass Professor Ponders a Career Switch

That's UMass faculty member and DewMass Marketing supervisor Dr. McDonald (or "D-Mac" as the skater kids like to call him) tearing it up on the Vew-Do balance board. He's looking to get sponsored and enter next summer's Dew Tour, so attach your company to this up-and-coming hipster now!

Last Friday, Mount Snow and the DewMass Marketing team took over the UMass campus center armed with balance boards, a prize wheel, and of course, the giant Carinthia SWAT van. Props to Vew-Do balance boards. We had one of their boards on site and gave some kids the chance to win Mount Snow lift tickets for pulling off a trick on it.

As you can see, we built up a bit of a line for this event. We'd like to say it was all us, but in truth, all those college students really wanted the chance to win Mount Snow pint glasses for some reason! Hmm...

I'm guessing they want to use it for their milk and cookies.

A day late Christmas Present.

I'm fairly new to the blogging empire. I know I don't write great so please bear with me through out my future posts. I'll apologize now. I already screwed up as what I posted yesterday wasn't quite complete. I had issues posting or so I assumed, if that makes any sense.

December 26th, 2007. I probably will remember this day for awhile. It wasn't because I got a shiny new sled or anything else on Christmas Day. It was because of an email.

An email that had the subject line: RFP Request.

It was from a woman I'd only had one email correspondence before hand and to be quite honest with you I didn't really think much of it and I checked out some other emails mostly from friends and family wishing me a Merry Christmas etc.. When you work in the ski industry holidays are just another day and usually are your busier times of year so Christmas day for me has always been celebrated with my coworkers on the third floor of the very old Mount Snow base lodge. (We always have a mouse stirring in case you wanted to know.)

RFP... Hmm.. Ok so for those of you wondering what the hell is an RFP?? Request for Proposal. Basically someone wants a ton of information about your business to host something usually quite large. An RFP are not common emails maybe I get one every few months for a major event but many times you start to read the one sheet and it's easy... no thanks.

Dawn's RFP. Consisted of two PDF's. So much for a day after Christmas ski Day... The first page though hooked me, it had a logo. Not a one pager outlining we need this and this and you provide this for this, it had a simple logo. The Dew AST Logo. I knew that logo. Shaun White, Bucky Lasek, Ryan Nyquist, that other Ryan kid you know Sheckler, and and the thought of skiing or even leaving the office was put on hold.

"LIVE TV on NBC." Those words stood out the most to me.
"$1.5 Million Prize Purse," that caught my eye too.

I was sold.
Three weeks later an 80 page proposal was submitted.
A month later a site visit was arranged.
A month later we were heavily favored to host the event.
Another email this time I was very familiar with the sender.
Subject line: MOU. Memorandum of Understanding.

A day later senior and middle mangers are called to a meeting to discuss the eventual transformation of Carinthia into a massive terrain park. Perfect fit.

Dew Tour - Mount Snow - Carinthia - January 2009.

Supreme fast forward we are here today: writing a blog, running promotions and handing out postcards about the upcoming event with the help of a student sport management class at UMass. So we must have done good in our RFP to be discussing the upcoming tour.

Today, DewMass had a great promotion at the Zoo's student union. Next week the ski sale, TGR premiers in Boston, Friday and then NYC on Saturday. It's the "show and promotion" season.
Crazy travel and crazy hours but tons of fun at the shows and even more fun after the shows.

Speaking of shows. If around the great New York state capital tomorrow stop by the Mount Snow booth at the Empire Plaza.
Our terrain park manager Gaitor, an Albany native himself will be hanging out at our booth. Who better to learn about Carinthia than the guy who has been over there physically building the new deck, mini-ramp and other elements you'll see at the Dew Tour and at Carinthia this year.

Gaitor
, with his burly long goatee, looks very zen these days.

He should
.

To be continued...

Revealed: Winter Dew Tour Logo

Here it is: the logo for the inaugural Winter Dew Tour.

It's a little cleaner than the summer logo, and I think it's pretty sharp.
